The Human Resource Department under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, has constituted an Indian National Board, National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS). NIOS is an autonomous Board, empowered to conduct School Final Exams for class 10th and class 12th and award Certificates for those who pass these Exams. Virtually any person with or without any regular School background can apply for NIOS Admission for Class 10th every Academic Year. These students must have a birth certificate as a proof for date of birth or a valid aadhar card with full date of birth. For Class 12th admission a student must have passed class 10th from any government recognized board in India. These Students are admitted as Private Candidates; and if they obtain Pass Marks in the specified Exam – 10th class or 12th class, then they will be awarded the Certificate. With this Certificate, 10th pass students can also appear for further study, namely Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate – 12th class and appear for the Final Exam. Also the 12th pass students from Nios board can apply for all the degree courses according to the eligibility criteria.

NIOS, National Institute of Open Schooling being an autonomous Board, they have their centralized office at Noida Uttar Pradesh.  So they conduct the entire NIOS Admission Process only through online mode. Candidates desirous of getting NIOS Admission should submit their application online With Nios Online form. On checking the correctness of the admission form, the Admit Card will also be sent to the Candidate through online.Since the individual Candidates are applying for Admission as private Candidates, they have to take care of the Admission formalities personally themselves. They should watch for the Notifications issued by the NIOS Board about the Admission Dates, eligibility criteria, and other allied particulars published online. Then they should prepare the application flawlessly without any mistake, attach the required documentary proof, submit it, and wait for the Admit Card.Nios Admission for Class 10th or class 12th is an online process now done through Nios online Admission. Here every student who want Nios admission must apply online for class 10th or class 12th admission. Under Nios online admission process student must have the scanned photographs, eligibility documents, and signature of the student which are required to complete the registration. Here first of all the student must have a valid email Id and mobile number for generation of OTP to start the admission process. After filling the OTP received from NIOS admission portal students fill all their information and later they can select the subjects witch they want to study. At the end after making payment for admission fees they get an admission reference number  for all future correspondence with Nios board. After verification of documents and fees the admission is confirmed by Nios admission committee and students can appear in Nios board Public exams.

What are the different streams for Nios admission?

There are different Streams for NIOS Admission where students can apply for 12th admission and 10th admission according to their Previous qualification. All the students can enroll them self for Both public exams in March/April or September /October. The different streams of Nios are explained below.
(A) Nios Stream 1 Admission - In this stream of Nios board All those students can apply who are going to appear for class 10th or class12th Board exam for first time. Under this stream students can apply for Nios Stream 1 block 1 public exam for March/ April or for Nios Stream 1 Block 2 for September/October public exam.
(B) Nios Stream 2 Admission– Those Students who were studying in regular schools of any Board and failed in 10th class and 12th class are eligible for this NIOS Admission under steam 2. Normally these Students will not be allowed to join in any other School, in 10th or 12th Class again. But by getting NIOS Admission stream 2, they get a second chance to Appear in exam for the same class once again in the same year. Here the scheme of  credit transfer helps students to apply only for fail subjects and it reduces the burden on students to study once again the pass subjects.
(C) Nios Stream 3 Admission – This stream is also Called Nios on Demand exam and it allows students to appear in exam when they think that they are well prepared for exam. Here only the 10th fail students can apply and they can also take the benefit of scheme of credit transfer. Nios on Demand exams are held through out the year except in the month of April and October.
(D) Nios Stream 4 Admission – Under this Stream, those who failed in 12th class earlier; those who could not clear any Subjects in the previous class 12th Exam; or eligible but could not appear for any Exam in any Subject at the Senior Secondary Level that is 12th Standard can get NIOS Board Admission in Stream 4. These class 12th ail students can also avail the benefit of scheme of credit transfer and can appear in fail subjects only.
 Therefore, These Stream 3 and 4 NIOS Admissions are something special since they conduct Final Exams in every Subject every month.
